Department of Civil Engineering

Civil engineering is discipline that deals with the design, construction, and maintenance of the physical and naturally built environment, including works like roads, bridges, canals, dams, and building bridges, roads, dams, canals etc. It includes structural engineering that deals with analysis and design of structures, irrigation engineering dealing with design of canals and dams for irrigation and other purposes ,geotechnical engineering dealing with analysis and design of foundations for various structures and soil related problems, water resources engineering dealing with analysis of water potential, design of hydraulic structures and allocation of water for various sectoral uses, environmental engineering dealing with water treatment for safe water supply to urban and rural areas and waste water treatment for preventing pollution hazards, transportation engineering dealing with analysis and design of roads, railways, airports and harbours, surveying dealing with mapping and setting out works and construction engineering dealing with construction materials, construction and maintenance of various structures. In addition, use of computers for analysis, design and construction, use of new technologies like remote sensing, intelligent buildings, intelligent transport system and green buildings, use of managerial skills for managing the resources and structures, use of communication skills for better understanding with people and need for environment consciousness in the design for environmental sustainability have all become part of Civil Engineering.
